Who is eligible to adopt during the event?

Anyone who meets the standard Metro East Humane Society adoption requirements is eligible. You’ll need to complete an adoption application and be approved, just like during any other adoption.

Do I need to register in advance?

No pre-registration is required! Simply stop by the Metro East Humane Society in Edwardsville or Highland, or MeowTown in Alton during adoption hours from June 12th to June 14th to meet the animals and apply to adopt. Additionally, MEHS will be on site at Twisted Biscuit Brunch Co. in Edwardsville on Friday, June 12 from 11:00 am – 2:00 pm.

Are all adoption fees really waived?

Yes! TorHoerman Law is covering 100% of the adoption fees for every pet adopted during the event. You’ll still go through the full adoption process, but the fee is on us.

What types of animals will be available?

Dogs, cats, puppies, kittens — and possibly more! What if I’m not ready to adopt but still want to help?

TorHoerman Law Partners with Metro East Humane Society for “Underdog Adoptions” Weekend

This year’s event will take place from June 12 through June 14, 2026. All animal adoption fees at the Metro East Humane Society locations below will be covered by TorHoerman Law to help overlooked pets find loving homes.

TorHoerman Law is proud to announce a partnership with Metro East Humane Society (MEHS) to launch Underdog Adoptions, a special event taking place June 12–14, during which adoption fees will be completely waived for all pets at MEHS.

This three-day initiative aims to shine a spotlight on shelter animals that are often overlooked — senior pets, large breeds, shy animals, and others who may not get adopted as quickly. TorHoerman Law will cover all adoption costs at MEHS to remove barriers and encourage more families to consider giving one of these pets a forever home.

** MEHS will be on site at Twisted Biscuit Brunch Co in Edwardsville on Friday, June 12 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm as they celebrate their 5th Anniversary! MEHS will have a litter of adoptable puppies on the patio. As the first day of Underdog Adoptions, THL will be sponsoring adoption fees.

A portion of all sales from TBBC will be donated to MEHS in honor of their 5th anniversary.
Anyone who brings an item from mehs.org/supplies will receive a coupon for a future visit to TBBC.
MEHS will be bringing a litter of adoptable puppies & tabling outside on the patio.

Underdog Adoptions will run during normal adoption hours at Metro East Humane Society locations from Friday, June 12th, through Sunday, June 14th.

All pets available for adoption will be eligible, and every adoption fee will be covered thanks to TorHoerman Law’s sponsorship.
