Zantac Lawsuit Update May 2022

The popular heartburn medication Zantac has been linked to a number of different cancers. The drug’s active ingredient, Ranitidine, was found to contain the cancer-causing chemical N-Nitrosodimethylamine (NDMA). 

These findings triggered lawsuits from people who believe their cancer was caused by Zantac usage. Since then, cases have been consolidated into multidistrict litigation (MDL). 

The Zantac lawsuit is ongoing and lawyers across the country are still accepting cases.

May 2022 update: Currently, plaintiffs lawyers and the defense are deliberating whether to allow an expert to defend their study. 

This study has been used by plaintiffs to connect NDMA exposure to cancer. 

The Zantac litigation is ongoing, and lawyers across the country are still accepting cases. 

Based on new criteria, attorneys are now accepting these injuries for legal action:

  • Bladder Cancer
  • Intestinal Cancer
  • Esophageal Cancer
  • Gastric Cancer
  • Liver Cancer
  • Lung Cancer
  • Pancreatic Cancer

Lawyers in the Zantac litigation are no longer pursuing prostate cancer injury claims.  

The U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) reported an advisory on September 13, 2019, after discovering the carcinogenic contaminant NDMA in ranitidine, the active ingredient in Zantac, at levels between 3,000 to 26,000 times higher than FDA approved standards.

Plaintiffs allege that drug manufacturers knew the risks of NDMA formation in ranitidine and did not alert the public through the drug’s label or any other means.

The suit attests that had consumers known the risks, they would not have purchased or consumed Zantac (ranitidine).
