ELGIN, IL – One person died, and another sustained injuries Saturday in a major collision along the interstate in northeast Kane County, reports NBC 5 Chicago.

Shortly after 3:15 p.m., emergency crews responded to a crash involving an SUV an a parked semi along the eastbound side of I-90 near IL-31 in Elgin, which is approximately 41 miles northwest of Chicago.

Police say that for unknown reasons, an eastbound SUV left the main lane of travel and crashed into a parked 18-wheeler on the shoulder of I-90.

The driver of the SUV succumbed to their injuries at the scene. Authorities haven’t yet shared the name of the deceased.

Medics transported the truck driver to an area hospital with injuries of unknown severity.

A full investigation is underway.
