Driver fleeing burglary fatally collides with another vehicle near Magnificent Mile

CHICAGO, IL – According to NBC Chicago, a person died in a multi-vehicle crash at East Ohio Street and Michigan Avenue, caused by a suspect fleeing a burglary at the Louis Vuitton store in the Gold Coast on Thursday.

A pickup truck driver slammed into the store around 5 a.m. At least nine people fled the scene in multiple vehicles. The pickup truck was left behind.

One of the suspects was fleeing the scene in a Kia Stinger. They headed south on Michigan Avenue when they hit a Honda CR-V heading east on Ohio Street.

First responders transported the Honda driver, a man in his 40s, to an area hospital, where he died.

Authorities arrested the five people in the KIA and transported them to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Another suspect was driving an Infinity Q50 south on Lake Shore Drive when they lost control and crashed. The four occupants fled the scene on foot.

Officers found two of the suspects and arrested them.

Investigators found stolen goods in the Infinity and the Kia.

The incident is under investigation.
