The names of the victims will be disclosed after next-of-kin notification

KANKAKEE COUNTY, IL – Two people died, and at least four people were injured Friday evening in a two-vehicle collision along the highway near the Will and Kankakee County lines.

According to Shaw Local, the accident occurred shortly after 7:30 p.m. at the intersection of IL-50 and West County Line Road, or East 12000 North Road. This is between Peotone and Manteno and approximately 50 miles southwest of Chicago.

Police say that a northbound 18-wheeler collided with an eastbound minivan when the driver of the van failed to heed a stop sign.

The driver of the minivan succumbed to their injuries at the scene. A passenger died after transport to an area hospital. Authorities have not yet released the names of the deceased victims.

Medics airlifted a juvenile to hospital in Chicago, while at least three other passengers from the van were transported to local hospitals via ground ambulance.

A full investigation is underway.
