Man arraigned for fatal crash on E Lake Ave in Glenview last month

GLENVIEW, IL – According to ABC 7, the allegedly impaired driver who was charged with a deadly crash on the 1200 block of E Lake Ave on May 12 was arraigned on Thursday.

Taeyoung Kim, 21, was driving a Mustang west on E Lake Ave at around 131 mph in a 35 mph zone around 11 p.m. when he collided with a Mercedes driven by a 17-year-old male. The collision ripped the Mercedes in half.

The Mercedes driver died in the crash, and his passenger was critically injured. Kim and his passenger were also hurt in the collision.

Authorities believe Kim had alcohol and cannabis in his system at the time of the crash.

Kim was charged with two counts of Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Causing Death, Reckless Homicide, Aggravated Driving Under the Influence Causing Great Bodily Harm, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, Driving Under the Influence of Drugs, Reckless Driving, Speeding, Driving without Lights, Improper Lane Usage, and Failure to Reduce Speed to Avoid an Accident, according to Glenview police.

Kim will appear in court again on August 15.
