Motorcyclist dies following pair of crashes on I-55 NB in DuPage County

DUPAGE COUNTY, IL – A motorcyclist lost their life early Tuesday after a pair of collisions on Interstate 55 near southeast Woodridge, according to NBC Chicago.

The accident happened on a stretch of northbound I-55 approaching Woodward Avenue, at about 12:44 a.m.

Illinois State Police said the victim was operating a motorcycle on the I-355 southbound ramp toward I-55 northbound when they crashed. As the motorcycle came to rest on the northbound highway, the rider, who was ejected from the bike, landed on the southbound lanes.

Moments later, a vehicle traveling northbound on I-55 hit the bike, causing their vehicle to overturn. A third vehicle traveling southbound on I-55 then struck the rider, despite efforts to avoid a crash.

First responders pronounced the motorcyclist deceased at the scene.

A section of I-55 was shut down for an extended time as crews worked to clear the area. At 5:46 a.m., about five hours after the initial report, all travel lanes were reopened to traffic.
