ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Authorities were dispatched to a two-vehicle wreck Monday evening on Interstate 255 near southwest St. Louis, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on the eastbound side of I-255 at I-55. It was first reported at around 6:42 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate a 28-year-old St. Charles woman had her 2012 Ford Fusion stopped in lanes 1 and 2 of the eastbound highway after having been involved in a previous crash. At one point, a 58-year-old Dupo, Illinois, man was driving a 2019 Nissan Sentra eastbound in lane 1 when he failed to observe the stopped vehicle in time. Moments later, the Sentra hit the back of the Fusion, sending the Fusion off the left side of the roadway and into the concrete median.

The drivers of the Fusion and the Sentra sustained minor and moderate injuries, respectively. Both were transported by Mehlville Fire Protection District personnel to Mercy Hospital St. Louis.

Officials also noted that both vehicles were totaled in the incident and had to be towed from the scene.
