Incident unfolded amid traffic congestion at mile marker 196

ST. LOUIS, MO – Two people had to go to the emergency room following a two-vehicle crash that happened on Interstate 55 North on Wednesday.

Missouri State Highway Patrol said the incident took place along mile marker 196 amid traffic congestion. MSHP said a man, driving a 2018 Ford Escape, did not slow for traffic and swerved out of his lane, went into the fifth lane, and collided with the left side of a 2015 GMC Sierra.

The Ford driver, from Maplewood, and the GMC driver, a 75-year-old man from Bonne Terre, sustained minor injuries. Mehlville Fire Protection District transported them to Mercy South for treatment.

Both drivers wore seatbelts, did not possess any car insurance, and were the sole occupants of their vehicles.

No citations have been reported at this time.
