The crash happened on the eastbound lanes at West Jennings Station Road.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Two people were hospitalized following a collision Friday afternoon near northwest St. Louis, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The wreck took place on the eastbound lanes of Interstate 70, west of Jennings Station Road. It was first reported at about 3:05 p.m.

Preliminary details indicate a 55-year-old St. Louis man was driving a 2002 Freightliner FL80 eastbound in lane 1 at the same time a 23-year-old man, also of St. Louis, was operating a 2018 Chevrolet Cruze eastbound in lane 3. At one point, the truck driver veered to the left of the roadway, causing the big rig to hit a concrete median barrier. The impact caused the truck to slide and return to the roadway, where the truck’s right side hit the left side of the Cruze.

The second impact sent the Cruze off the right side of the roadway, where its right side hit the guardrail. The truck driver overcorrected following the second collision, causing his vehicle to overturn and come to rest facing northbound, blocking lanes 1 and 2.

The drivers of the truck and the Cruze were both transported to Barnes Jewish Hospital for injuries considered moderate and minor, respectively.

Both vehicles were totaled due to the wreck.
