Crash appears to have been caused by unsafe left turn

JACKSON, MO – Two drivers were injured early yesterday afternoon when one attempted to turn left from southbound I-55 onto US-61, the Missouri State Highway Patrol reports.

According to the department’s accident report, the collision happened at about 1:10 p.m. on May 17. A 2007 Chevrolet 2500 was stopped at the intersection of the southbound exit ramp of I-55 and 61 and then proceeded left, into the pathway of a northbound Chevrolet Malibu. The Malibu struck the 2500 on the driver’s side.

Paramedics with Joachim Plattin Ambulance District transported both drivers to Mercy Hospital Jefferson.

The 56-year-old Festus man driving the 2500 suffered minor injuries, while responders graded the 70-year-old female driver of the Malibu’s injuries as moderate.
