2 Killed in Helicopter Collision Near St. Louis

NEAR ST. LOUIS, MO – Two people lost their lives to a helicopter collision reported on the Mississippi River north of St. Louis Thursday.

The collision took place around 11:00 a.m., according to Fox2 Now. Preliminary details show that one person was operating a Hughes 369D helicopter when it crashed into transmission lines and a barge.

The force of the crash caused the barge to catch on fire, and the two helicopter occupants died from their injuries a short time later.

These were the emergency personnel who responded to the scene of the crash: the Rivers Point Fire Protection District, St. Charles County Police Department, Spanish Lake Fire Protection District, St. Charles County Ambulance District, Alton Fire Department, Godfrey Fire Department, St. Charles City Fire Department, Orchard Farm Fire Protection District, blackjack fire protection district, Christian Northeast Ambulance, and Missouri State Highway Patrol.

By 1:15 p.m., authorities shut down the river so they could retrieve the transmission line that fell into the water.

The National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) will be leading the investigation.

No other details, including the victim’s identity, have been released.
