One car hits guardrail following 2-vehicle wreck

ST. LOUIS, MO – A rear-end collision that caused one vehicle to drift off I-270 West and crash into a guardrail Monday evening resulted in injuries to both motorists.

Missouri Highway Patrol said the collision happened before 7:30 p.m. Troopers confirmed a 19-year-old man from St. Louis was distracted while driving a 2014 Toyota Camry and failed to notice a Ford Explorer’s hazard lights. At one point, the teen’s Camry struck the back of the Explorer.

The impact left both vehicles significantly damaged. The Ford motorist, a 39-year-old man, also from St. Louis, suffered moderate injuries, while the 19-year-old sustained minor injuries.

Christian EMS ambulance personnel took the 39-year-old man to Christian Hospital Northeast and the 19-year-old man to Barnes Jewish Hospital.

MHP did not say whether or not the 19-year-old driver was cited.
