ST. FRANCOIS COUNTY, MO – Two teenagers from Fredericktown were injured due to a single-vehicle accident Thursday afternoon near Farmington, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The wreck unfolded on the southbound side of Old Jackson School Road, north of Wesley Chapel Road, at about 12:48 p.m.

A preliminary investigation shows a 17-year-old girl was driving a 2019 Kia Sorrento southbound when she veered off the west side of the roadway to avoid an oncoming vehicle. Moments later, the Sorrento collided with a large tree stump.

St. Francois County Ambulance crews transported the teenage driver and her passenger, a 16-year-old boy, to Mercy Hospital South for injuries deemed serious and minor, respectively.

At this time, officials have not indicated whether the driver of the oncoming vehicle is expected to be charged or cited.

The Sorrento, which sustained extensive damage in the crash, had to be towed from the scene.
