Driver is unable to slow down, leading to rear-end crash on I-270

DES PERES, MO – Three people were hospitalized following a chain-reaction collision that happened on I-270 East west of MO 100 Tuesday.

Missouri Highway Patrol said the events unraveled before 4 p.m., when a 16-year-old boy driving a 2005 Dodge Ram 1500 pickup truck was unable to reduce his speed to congested traffic ahead and first rear-ended a 2017 Jeep Cherokee, driven by a 27-year-old man from St. Genevieve. The Jeep Cherokee was pushed forward and crashed into the back of a 2013 Dodge Ram 1500, driven by a 23-year-old man from Overland.

Troopers said the 27-year-old man from St. Genevieve was the only injured driver. The two other injured occupants were a 27-year-old man from Bonne Terre, a passenger of the 2005 Dodge Ram, and a 46-year-old woman from St. Genevieve. All three individuals sustained minor injuries.

All three injured individuals were transported to Parkland Health Center by means of private conveyance.

The Town and County police departments assisted troopers with the crash.

Officials have not announced any charges at this time.
