3 sent to hospital after rollover collision off MO-79 in Pike County

PIKE COUNTY, MO – Three people were hurt due to a rollover crash Wednesday afternoon on State Highway 79 near Calumet Township, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident took place on the southbound lanes of MO-79 at Pike 210, prompting an emergency response at about 1:18 p.m.

A preliminary investigation found that a 35-year-old Clarksville man was driving a 2007 Chevrolet Equinox southbound behind a southbound 2019 Chevrolet Silverado. While north of Pike 210, the Clarksville man tried to move around the Silverado, but the front-right of the Equinox ended up striking the rear of the other vehicle.

The impact caused the Silverado to skid off the roadway’s east side and roll into a ditch. Meanwhile, the Equinox was also sent off the roadway’s east side and into a ditch.

The driver of the Equinox and their passenger, a 33-year-old Dexter woman, were transported by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for moderate injuries. The driver of the Silverado, a 57-year-old Elsberry man, also suffered moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Mercy Hospital St. Louis. Investigators noted that none of those injured was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the wreck.

Both vehicles sustained extensive damage in the incident and had to be towed from the scene.
