ST. LOUIS, MO – Three teen girls were hospitalized late yesterday afternoon after a driver sideswiped their vehicle while attempting to change lanes on I-55.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that the accident happened shortly before 5 p.m. in the southbound lanes of the interstate just past Bayless Avenue.

They say a 25-year-old man driving a 2006 Chrysler 300 improperly merged from the right, striking the front of a 2018 Chevrolet Equinox with the rear of his vehicle. The impact pushed the Equinox into the rear of a third vehicle and then off the right side of the roadway.

Responders with Mehlville Fire Protection District rushed three teenaged occupants of the Equinox to Mercy Hospital South. Two female passengers, aged 17 and 16, suffered minor injuries. The 17-year-old girl driving the vehicle was unhurt.
