Car catches fire in St. Louis 7-vehicle wreck, sending women to hospital 

ST. LOUIS, MO – Four women had to go to the hospital for minor injuries following a seven-vehicle crash that caused one vehicle to catch on fire Tuesday.

Missouri Highway Patrol said the crash happened before 6 p.m. at the southbound I-270 and Theiss Road connector. The events unfolded when a 36-year-old St. Louis man driving a Chevrolet Silverado rear-ended a 2017 Ford Transit van. The van driver, a 28-year-old Maryville, Illinois man, then drifted into a left lane and struck a 2023 Ford E-350.

The Ford E-350 driver, a 25-year-old East St. Louis, then crashed into a 2020 Ford Edge, a 2021 Kia Soul, and a 2024 Honda Odyssey. The impact caused the 25-year-old woman to veer off the road and crash into an embankment that, caused the car to catch on fire.

The 25-year-old woman was transported via non-ambulance vehicle to an area hospital for minor wounds. The occupants with her, a 98-year-old woman and a 54-year-old St. Charles woman, were transported to Mercy Hospital South by Mehlville Fire Protection District.

The driver of the 2021 Kia Soul, a 33-year-old Lake St. Louis, was also taken to Mercy Hospital by Melhville fire crews. She is also recovering from minor wounds.

All other occupants were spared from injuries.
