Serious injuries reported after woman is struck by pickup truck outside Athena Elementary School

DE SOTO, MO – A 76-year-old woman, who is a DeSoto local, was taken to the emergency room after a pedestrian-pickup truck crash last Thursday.

Missouri State Highway Patrol said the incident happened before 3:30 p.m. on Athena School Road. Preliminary details reveal the elderly lady walked onto the northbound lanes and was then struck by a 2001 GMC Sierra pickup truck.

The pickup truck driver, a 58-year-old man from Hillsboro, told MSHP he swerved into the southbound lane to avoid hitting the female pedestrian, but was unable to.

Joachim Plattin Ambulance District hurried to the scene and rushed the pedestrian to Mercy Hospital South.

No citations were reported.
