One vehicle catches on fire, another overturns in crash, MSHP says

HAZELWOOD, MO – One vehicle caught on fire, another vehicle overturned, and one person was injured as a result of a collision that happened on I-270 East on Saturday.

The two-vehicle crash took place after 6 p.m. east of U.S. 67, the Missouri State Highway Patrol said. Troopers said a 19-year-old man operating a 2018 Chevrolet Impala failed to notice the 2015 Toyota 4Runner traveling in front of him and rear-ended it.

Once the Chevrolet and Toyota collided, the Toyota drifted off the road and crashed into a concrete median barrier. The Toyota overturned, and the Chevrolet caught on fire.

Hazelwood police, Bolin’s Towing, and Hazelwood fire and EMS crews responded to the scene.

Bolin’s Towing said the Chevrolet was totaled and the Toyota was significantly damaged. Tow truck crews removed both vehicles from the site, and EMS crews transported a Chevrolet passenger, a 17-year-old boy from St. Charles, to Mercy Hospital St. Louis by Hazelwood fire crews.

Both drivers were unharmed.

Troopers have not announced any citations at this time.
