Distracted driving was a contributing factor in the I-255 East crash

ST. LOUIS, MO – A 28-year-old man driving a 2023 Kia Soul rear-ended a 2023 Honda Civic involved in another crash, injuring the Honda driver Sunday.

The collision happened before 12:30 a.m. on I-255 East west of Missouri 231, according to the Missouri Highway Patrol. Troopers said the 28-year-old man, from Waterloo, Illinois, was distracted by his GPS system and did not notice the disabled Honda in front of him. The Illinois man tried to reduce his speed and avoid hitting the Honda but was unsuccessful and made contact with the car.

The Honda motorist, a 17-year-old St. Louis teenager, went to Mercy Hospital South. There, he received treatment for minor wounds.

Troopers did not say if they cited the 28-year-old man for distracted driving. Additional details will be added once authorities confirm more information.
