The victim was re-entering the roadway with hazard lights on when the crash occurred.

ST. CHARLES COUNTY, MO – A 24-year-old man suffered serious injuries in a two-vehicle wreck early Wednesday on State Route 370 near St. Charles, reports the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on the eastbound highway west of Exit 5 to Elm Street. It was first reported at about 3:50 a.m.

According to MSHP troopers, the 24-year-old man, a Herculanium resident, was driving a 2023 Subaru Impreza in lane 3 when he failed to keep a “proper lookout” ahead. At one point, the vehicle hit the back of a 2018 Freightliner M2 that was re-entering the roadway with its hazard lights on. Officials learned that the driver of the big rig, a 69-year-old Maryland Heights man, was stranded shortly before the crash.

St. Charles County Ambulance District personnel transported the driver of the Subaru to Mercy Hospital St. Louis for major injuries.
