Passenger, 37, injured in two-vehicle wreck on I-170 near NW St. Louis

ST. LOUIS, MO – Authorities responded to a two-vehicle, injury collision Tuesday morning on Interstate 170 near northwest St. Louis, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The accident happened on the southbound side of I-170, south Exit 4 to Page Avenue, in the Overland area. It was first reported just after 5:00 a.m.

Preliminary details in the MSHP crash report indicate a 32-year-old St. Louis man was operating a 2010 Chevrolet Impala southbound when the vehicle began to exhibit mechanical problems. Shortly after it began shaking uncontrollably, it veered off the right side of the roadway and hit the guardrail with its front-end. That impact sent the vehicle back into the roadway, where its front-end entered lane 2 and collided with the right side of a 2018 Chevrolet Impala driven by a 72-year-old St. Louis man.

Community Fire Protection District personnel transported a passenger in the 2010 Impala, a 37-year-old St. Louis woman, to SSM Health DePaul Hospital for moderate injuries. Investigators noted she was not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, while both drivers were.

The 2010 Impala and the 2018 Impala sustained total and minor damages, respectively.

No charges or citations have been announced to the public at this time.
