Crash happened overnight near West Florissant

ST. LOUIS, MO – An 18-year-old man suffered serious injuries when a tire blowout caused him to lose control of his vehicle and crash on I-270 early this morning.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol reports that the crash happened at 1 a.m. in the interstate’s eastbound lanes just past West Florissant Avenue.

They say that the rear driver’s side tire of the man’s 2013 Volkswagen Passat exploded, sending the vehicle swerving across all eastbound lanes. The Passat ran off the right side of the roadway and hit a concrete barrier. The force of the crash totaled the vehicle.

Emergency responders with Christian EMS rushed the teen to Barnes-Jewish Hospital. His injuries were reported to be serious. We do not know his current condition.
