Two passengers from the Buick were pronounced deceased one after another at a local hospital.

ST. LOUIS COUNTY, MO – Authorities confirmed Wednesday that two people have died following a collision the previous morning on Interstate 55 in southwest St. Louis, according to FOX 2.

The double-fatal wreck occurred on the northbound lanes past Butler Hill Road, leaving part of the highway closed by about 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, November 26.

A preliminary investigation indicates a 2015 Dodge Challenger was heading northbound when it hit the back of a 2023 Buick Envision SUV, which then ran off the roadway and hit a concrete barrier.

Officials initially said one passenger from the Buick succumbed to their injuries at an area hospital, but later indicated that another passenger from the same vehicle also died. The decedents were described as two women aged 71 and 90.

The driver of the Buick, 58, was transported to another hospital for major injuries, and the driver of the Dodge Challenger, 24, was said to have suffered moderate injuries.

No information regarding charges or citations has been released at this time.
